Ive been watching my friend do it for a while and now been practicing myself for a couple days. people tell me when youre shifting from one gear to another that you have to ease up on the clutch as you ease down onto the gas equally, but i noticed that when i go from neutral into firsst if i want i can just let up on the clutch real slow and the car will start moving on its own without me giving gas. and i can give it gas after im off the clutch, is this true for other gears? say if im in first and im going 15 if i want can i shift into second and let go of the clutch and THEN start giving gas, instead of easing up on the clutch and giving gas simultaneously? is this possible when going in reverse? also my friend eases off the clutch depending on how fast he pushes down on the gas, and he almost stalls like all the time, somehow i got the idea in my head that how quickly you let off the clutch should be based on how many rpm's youre going, is this true? if thats the case, when i want to do a quick start should i give gas and up the rpm's before i start to let go of the clutch? i know these questions must sound weird but ive only been doin this like a day and cant wait to get back at it tomorrow. Mercedes-Benz . How to Lubricate the Throttle BodyDespite being typically crafted by robotic, laser-cutting machines, a throttle body is only as good as the small, internal flap door that opens to let air and fuel pass into a car's engine. When this door gets gunked up with burnt carbon or stops functioning correctly, the throttle body in a car will begin to cause problems and "check engine" warnings with the car computer. Properly cleaning and lubricating the throttle body and door flap inside will avoid this problem and allow the car engine to operate correctly. A clean throttle body allows the fuel/air mixture to pass through when needed and shutting to stop a backflow from occurring. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Screwdrivers Torx screwdrivers and bits Crescent wrenches Goggles Mechanic gloves Throttle body spray cleaner Clean toothbrush or similar small plastic brush Disposable paper towels Bucket An auto lamp or hand flashlight Mechanical oil Q-tips Step by Step : 1 Park the car in a flat location with good ventilation. Find the air filter box in the car (which will vary by car make and model) and follow the air intake from the filter box to the engine. Find the throttle body clamped onto the engine intake valve. 2 Use a screwdriver to loosen the air intake hose clamp holding the hose to the mouth of the throttle body. Remove the air hose once it is loose. Examine the throttle body and determine the hardware used to connect it to the engine valve (again, this will vary depending on what kind of vehicle you are working on). Use a crescent wrench or a Torx screwdriver and bit to loosen the hardware. Detach the throttle body from the engine intake valve. 3 Put on goggles and mechanic gloves. Be careful to protect the electrical wires attached to the throttle body while you have it separated. Spray the throttle body inside with throttle body cleaner. Carefully scrub the inside with the toothbrush or small plastic brush to break up the burnt carbon and gunk. 4 Clean off the spray and broken up dirt with paper towels. Dispose of the used towels in bucket. Continue to spray and scrub until the throttle body is clean internally. Examine the work with a small auto lamp or flashlight. 5 Dab a little bit of mechanic oil on the throttle door hinges using a cotton swab. Oil it enough to lubricate the mechanism and not much more. Wipe up an overage of oil with a paper towel. Install a new throttle body gasket underneath the unit and secure it again to the engine intake valve. 6 Tighten the bolts or hardware connecting the throttle body to the engine. Reattach the air hose to the throttle body mouth and tighten the hose clamp with a screwdriver. Clear all your tools of the car and start it up. Let the engine warm and realize a normal idle. Dispose of the old paper towels in a plastic bag and outdoor garbage can. Tips & Warnings Some throttle bodies require cleaning with a special brush. You can ask whether yours is one of them, and purchase the equipment needed, at an auto parts store. Throttle body cleaner is a solvent and highly flammable. Do not use it in a closed garage or near any heat or flame source. The fumes could ignite and cause a fire.
Mercedes-Benz . How to Replace a Throttle Body With a CarbueratorConverting from throttle body injection, or TBI, to carburetion is pretty simple as fuel-delivery conversions go. Manufacturers originally developed throttle body injection as something of a stop-gap measure to ease the transition from carburetion to today's multi-point fuel injection. In fact, most throttle bodies are little more than contemporary carburetors modified to house downward-facing injectors instead of vacuum-metered fuel jets. Converting from throttle body injection might be as simple as bolting a carb in place of your original throttle body, but it may also necessitate a few fuel and ignition system modifications. Difficulty:Moderately Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Basic hand tools Step by Step : 1 Disconnect the throttle body's fuel lines and control cables/linkages. Remove the throttle body from the engine. Slide a new gasket over the manifold studs and install the carburetor. Odds are pretty good that the intake manifold was originally designed with a carburetor in mind; if this is the case, then a similar carburetor from the same manufacturer should bolt right in place of the throttle body. Otherwise, you may need to purchase an adapter plate. 2 Cut the stock fuel line somewhere near the throttle body and install an adjustable pressure regulator in the line. Set the pressure regulator to about 8 psi, and connect it to the carburetor's fuel-inlet nipple with a length of rubber fuel line. The throttle body's fuel pump runs at a much higher pressure than the carb requires, so in most cases you'll only need a regulator to bring it down. If your vehicle uses a return-style fuel system, you'll need to replace the pump with one designed for a carburetor. 3 Remove the old distributor and replace it with one designed to work with a carburetor. Most throttle body engines were originally carbureted, so often-times this will mean acquiring a distributor for an older model of the same engine. If your engine never came with a carb, you can either buy a kit to convert the distributor, cobble one together from whatever will work or have a distributor custom-built for your application. If you do get a new distributor, make sure to transfer your old cam-drive gear to the new one; mixing brass and steel gears is a recipe for disaster. 4 Reconnect your distributor to the plug wires and coil, and connect the throttle body's throttle linkage to the carburetor. You may need to modify the linkage or the linkage bracket to fit it to the carburetor, so take your time and make sure everything lines up. The same goes for the transmission-kickdown linkage and bracket. Start the car, check for leaks and proceed with the process of adjusting your fuel pressure, idle mixture and air-fuel ratio to work with the engine. If you're unfamiliar with carb tuning, purchase a reference book like those produced by Haynes and Chilton. Tips & Warnings This is a fairly basic outline for throttle body conversions, but the devil will be in the details. You can expect to run into minor issues like bracket fitment, air cleaner fitment, improper carburetor jetting, choke cable routing and fitting and fuel line sizing and filter location. These fairly minor headaches can add up into a significant investment in time and dollars, so plan accordingly. You may have to hold the cable to keep it taut (refer to Figure 18-17). 4. Get out from under the vehicle and test-drive it to see whether the parking brake is working. 5. While you're at it, pay attention to whether the parking brake warning light on your dashboard is working. If it isn't, check or replace the bulb or fuse. 873

If changing the bulb or fuse doesn't work, get someone to check the connection between the warning light and the brake; there may be a short in it. Checking Anti-Lock Brakes Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) vary from one vehicle to another, and most require no special maintenance. (Chapter 10 tells you how ABS brake systems work and how to operate them properly.) Manufacturers install an amber warning lamp in the instrument panel. Under normal circumstances, the amber light will go on briefly during engine startup and turn off in a short amount of time. If it goes on while you're on the road, the ABS system isn't working properly and your vehicle is using only the normal brake system. In this case, get the ABS repaired as soon as you can. BEfj If you want to test the operation of your anti-lock brakes, find an empty parking lot on a rainy day. While traveling on a slippery surface at about 30 mph, firmly press the brake pedal. You should hear some clicking and feel some pulsing of the brake pedal while the vehicle comes to a stop without sliding. If the warning lamp stays on, or you suspect that the ABS isn't working properly, take your vehicle to a professional who specializes in brake systems. Well, that's it. If you get in the habit of checking your brake system every 10,000 miles (and more frequently as they wear), you'll be able to stop worry Mercedes-Benz .
